Selling your home off market: how it works
Updated 6 November 2026
Selling off market means selling without a public advert on the big property websites and without a for sale board. Owners do it for privacy, to test the market, or because they would only move for the right offer.
Why owners sell quietly
- Privacy: neighbours and colleagues do not need to know you are thinking of moving.
- No pressure: you can wait for the right buyer instead of reducing the price after a few weeks.
- Testing the market: you can see real interest and offers before deciding to sell.
The trade off
Fewer people see an off market home, so it may take longer to find the right buyer. That matters less if you are not in a hurry and would only move for a strong offer.
How to do it on Homeflit
Claim your home, prove you own it, and set the price you would want offers above. Buyers who have saved a search near you are alerted, but they only ever see your home at postcode level and your code name. You can also choose to keep it hidden and simply track demand.
What still applies
The legal process is the same as any sale. In England and Wales you need an Energy Performance Certificate before marketing, and in Scotland a Home Report. Both sides use solicitors, and nothing is binding until contracts are exchanged or missives concluded.
List your home free, without your name or address
Claim your home in a couple of minutes, prove you own it, and let serious buyers make offers straight to you.
